Denier comment of the day August 7, 2012

Today, the comment of the day goes to none other than the big guy, the big sook himself, Anthony Watts. Apart from questioning why James  Hansen didn’t include tornado and hurricane data in his latest paper about temperature…..no seriously, he really did ask that question, he offered up this little gem…

Really? pppffftttttt wuuahahahahahaha

That’s right people, Anthony Watts is offering his blog-reviewed, seriously flawed, error riddled, never will be published manuscript as evidence to contradict James Hansen’s expertly peer-reviewed, flawless, spellchecked and published paper. Wow.

  1. john byatt

So he has jumped from a claim that the temperature anomalies are double what they should be to “may be biased warmer”

had a quick look at the comments, apparently it only qualifies as a new record when it gets over 38DegC…,,,,,,, FFS effin 1degC can be a new high record morons

re comment , it was not that hot last summer in the UK

if they had a clue you could debate them, but they haven’t, so you can’t

  2. Mike, I guess I have you to thank for tempting me back into my old habit of trying to “convert” deniers (what they refer to as being “a troll”) – such as on Bishop Hill, Climate Audit, Climate Conversation, and/or WUWT… However, to be clear, I am not blaming you. The problem lies within me – I am convinced I can change their minds; and make them see the light…

However, even if we have vastly different motivations, I think we are both wasting our time… This is because the only way to change people’s minds is to get to know them first; become their friend; and earn their respect (despite having differing views)… Neither you nor I will ever do this in the blogosphere; it is far too toxic – and over-run with people who think sarcasm is a valid substitute for having a logical argument or credible evidence base for their beliefs…

I would very much recommend watching the TEDx video embedded in this post on one of my favourite blogs…

    • It’s like sport…or therapy…for me and it’s also not about the particular denier I might be engaging. If there are one or two people who are reading who might not know what to believe, that I can convince to accept the evidence over taking the mindless route, then I will have achieved something.
I had seen this talk or one like it before and what I take from it is that the only way to get a denier to act for the greater good is to convince them the threat of climate change is personal. Simran is right about one thing though, andthat is that we can learn from deniers. We can learn how not to act. Thought I might share my favourite piece of poetry. I had to dissect this poem when I was in high school and it left a mark on me.

Daniel at Breakfast by Phyllis McGinley

his paper propped against the electric toaster
(nicely adjusted to his morning use),
Daniel at breakfast studies world disaster
      and sips his orange juice.
the words dismay him. headlines shrilly chatter
of famine, storm, death, pestilence, decay.
Daniel is gloomy, reaching for the butter.
      he shudders at the way
war stalks the planet still, and men know hunger,
go shelterless, betrayed, may perish soon.
the coffee’s weak again. in sudden anger
      Daniel throws down his spoon
and broods a moment on the kitchen faucet
      the plumber mended, but has mended ill;
recalls tomorrow means a dental visit,
      laments the grocery bill.
then having shifted from his human shoulder
the universal woe, he drains his cup
rebukes the weather (surely turning colder),
      crumples his napkin up
and, kissing his wife abruptly at the door,
stamps fiercely off to catch the 8:04

      • That poem is fantastic! Thanks for the education.

I agree with you about the need to make it personal (i.e. imminent not abusive); and you are right, there is always the chance that we may influence the undecided…

      • klem

“you are right, there is always the chance that we may influence the undecided..”

You had better hurry on that one Marty ol’ buddy, climate alarmism peaks in the summer and then falls off when it gets cold again in the winter. The US election is November, in some parts of the US its already snowing by then. Climate alarmism will be dropping like a stone just in time for Romneys win.

        cheers

      • Hey Klem, my old mate; I thought you were dead!

Even if there is some truth in what you say, we are indeed fortunate that when it is Summer here it is Winter in Australia… Unless of course you think the Earth is flat!(?)

  3. WTF - Indeed......

Anthony Watts is a self centered prima dona. Aside from his pathetic quoting of his blog “reviewed” paper, he often sooks about his personal life he really needs to man up.

I remember when the fool was on his money grabbing tour of Oz, he completely cracked the shites over not being supplied a high quality razor by the hotel he was staying at when his luggage went astray.

Even a couple of the faithful took him to task for his pathetic self centered and unreasonable rant. He realised that very few agreed with him and admonished the readers that they were the ones who needed to chill.
